Bergamo and Brescia become the exhibition spaces for the iconic installations of Kaarina Kaikkonen, a contemporary Finnish artist who has been working for years with large-scale urban and relational art interventions.
Tomorrow, June 15, 2023, the artist Emilio Isgrò will receive the “Sigillo delle Arti” for “the extent and depth of the impact in the world of art and culture of his pictorial, poetic and literary work” and he will be nominated Honorary Academician of the Academy of Fine Arts of Urbino for “having introduced a true new language in the furrow of the great history of Italian art”.
“Four Landscape Plus One” by Agostino Iacurci for Hermès’s flagship store in Montenapoleone in Milan.
The collaboration includes four artist windows and sculpture for the interiors of the iconic building in Milan. They will be on display until September 2023.
In conjunction with the Milan Design Week, Agostino Iacurci presents ‘Dry Days, Tropical Nights’, a very special project that will envelop the imposing tower in Largo Treves, which will become the hub of the Brera Design District.
The installation, realized in collaboration with gloTM, will be open from 17 to 23 April.

M77 wishes to congratulate Avish Khebrehzadeh (Tehran, 1969) on the recent acquisition of two of her important installative artworks by the Albertina Museum in Vienna.
Located in the historic heart of the city of Vienna in the building that was the largest residential palace of the Habsburgs, the Albertina combines imperial charm and extraordinary artistic masterpieces of enormous historical and artistic value and international resonance.
The artworks that have become part of the museum’s prestigious collection are Theater + A Swim (2006) and Distant Memory I (Sleepers) (2004). Both are video installations projected on an oil and gesso painting in the case of the first artwork and on a drawing realized with the skillful use of graphite, olive oil and varnish on paper for the second piece acquired.
Among the amazing artworks featured in the first post-lockdown temporary exhibition at the Gallerie d’Italia in Vicenza, one of Grazia Varisco’s Schema Luminoso Variabile from 1963. The exhibition, called FUTURE | Art and Society from the Sixties to Tomorrow is conceived and curated by Luca Beatrice and Walter Guadagnini with the patronage of the municipality of Vicenza.
The exhibition starts from Futurism and the 1960s and goes all the way to the present time, with an open ending. It features almost one hundred works by Italian and international artists, belonging to the Intesa Sanpaolo collection and private collections alike.

Art Around has just published a new audio interview with the Milanese artist Grazia Varisco. She doesn’t like to be defined, and wants to be call an artist without female or male connotations.
“Art is a question mark. It’s a game. The artist draws on doubt as an instrument of knowledge “.
This journey open to playful experimentation, including interactive reliefs, sculptures and sound installations, in the continuous mutability of forms, runs through Varisco’s entire career, from the beginnings linked to optical-kinetic experiences alongside her companions Giovanni Anceschi, Davide Boriani, Gianni Colombo and Gabriele De Vecchi, from Group T – where T stood for time, extension of the work in the fourth dimension. Each form she creates has always had a close correlation with movement, a concept that originated from the very beginning with the T Group, which was the answer to the relationships between space and time, more often obtained from ambiguity, from chance and from doubt.
An unmistakable quality of her work is lightness. Sculptures and reliefs fly, with Grazia.

Newly opened to the public at the Barletta Castle , INHUMAN, a collective exhibition curated by Giusy Caroppo featuring work by internationally renowned artists Kendell Geers , Oleg Kulik and Andres Serrano. Intended to encourage the reflection on the universality of human degradation, the violence exercised by the individual or by power against the dignity of the person and their freedoms – also in light of the recent pandemic-induced lockdown and world protests linked to the Black Lives Matter movement – the show touches on the moral and anthropological sphere, beyond history, latitudes, age, gender and religion, showing how “inhumanity” is, in fact, “one of the characteristic qualities of the human being” as already stated in the nineteenth century by Ambrose Bierce.

On the 26th of June, the Stazione dell’Arte in Ulassai will be presenting the new layout of its permanent collection entitled Maria Lai. Fame d’Infinito.
Art to see, feel, touch: never have Maria Lai’s work crossed every physical and intellectual barrier as on the occasion of the new setup. An exhibition that is a multisensory experience, conceived to encourage a new approach to art and feed visitors’ curiosity. To satisfy our “hunger of infinity”, the exhibition recovers a direct dialogue with the public after the stop for the health emergency.
The exhibition is organized by the Fondazione Stazione dell’Arte with the support of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, the Municipality of Ulassai and the Fondazione di Sardegna. Curated by Davide Mariani, director of the museum entirely dedicated to Maria Lai, Fame d’Infinito retraces the entire path of the artist by featuring some of the most significant works donated by her to the Municipality of Ulassai. The collection in its entirety introduces to Maria Lai’s creative experience and oeuvre: from sculptures to pencil and ink drawings, from frames to stitched canvases, from famous loaves to sewn books, from geographies to installations and environmental interventions.

Artforum just published an amazing review penned by Alessandra Pioselli (translated by Marguerite Shore) on Maria Lai‘s largely celebrated retrospective at MAXXI Museum in Rome.

The exhibition emphazises this effort, drawing its subtitle “Tenendo per mano il sole” (Taking the Sun by the Hand), from the first of the artist’s “Sewn Fables”, 1989-96, an ebroidered fabric book that shows a path from darkness to illumination. »

A new exhibition about Maria Lai just opened its doors in Matera, focusing on the artist’s close relationship with internationally renowned fashion designer Antonio Marras (1961, Alghero). In the evocative setting of Palazzo Lanfranchi, Trama doppia. Maria Lai, Antonio Marras features more than 300 artworks realized by the two artists both seperately and four-handedly, carefully selected by the collaborative work of their respective archives. The exhibition was strongly desired by Marras, who conceived it with Francesco Maggiore, as an homage to “a traveling companion, a muse, a brilliant affectionate friend and a soul custodian“.
This extraordinary exhibition will be open to the public through March 8th 2020, don’t miss it!

The result of the collaboration between M77 Gallery and 5 Continents Editions on Tuesday 3 December 2019 two appointments dedicated to Maria Lai will take place in Milan.
The first meeting will take place from 10.30 to 12.00 at the former Great Hall of the Brera Academy. Here Elena Pontiggia, art historian, will have the opportunity to dialogue with Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, director of MAXXI Arte, Luigia Lonardelli, MAXXI curator, Francesca Alfano Miglietti, art historian and with Maria Sofia Pisu, president of the Maria Lai Foundation.
The second event will be a talk hosted by M77 Gallery at 7.00 pm moderated by Massimo Torrigiani. The evening will see the intervention of Elena Pontiggia, Maria Sofia Pisu, Giorgio Dettori, friend of the artist and her trusted photographer, and Walter Baldi, collector. For the occasion, the gallery will present to the public an unpublished work by Maria Lai, recently acquired by the Archive.
A key element of this multi-item comparison will be the role of the Sardinian artist in the Italian and international scene, critical fortune and the opportunities that are taking shape thanks to the more precise knowledge of Maria Lai and her work, to which they contributed to give great visibility to the exhibitions organized in his honor in recent years: think of the presence at the 57th Venice Art Biennale (2017), Documenta 14 in Athens and Kassel (2017), at the Maria Lai exhibition. The thread and the infinity at Palazzo Pitti, Florence (2018) and, finally, at the great retrospective still underway at the MAXXI in Rome, Maria Lai. Holding the sun by the hand (19 June 2019 – 12 January 2020).
On the occasion of Emilio Isgrò‘s solo show at Fondazione Cini, Treccani Arte published the most complete monography of the artist to date, curated – just like the exhibition itself – by Germano Celant.
The volume documents the artist’s career from 1962 to this day, opening with a conversation between Celant and Isgró held in July 2019. The publication is enriched by a refined selection of images from the artist’s archive and an unedited contribution, the erasure of Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick“.
The exhibition will be on view from until November 24th!

M77 Gallery is happy to invite you to a talk focused on the circulation of works of art entitled: “Starting from a sentence. A conversation on the circulation of artworks in the XXI century” to be held next Friday, October 11 at 7 pm at the gallery spaces in via Mecenate 77.
The debate takes its cue from a declaration of exceptional artistic interest recently notified to the Maria Lai Archive, following the presentation by the latter of a self-certification required by law in order to get out of the country an artwork by a non-living artist whose creation dates back more than 50 years but less than 70.
The event, organized on the occasion of the very first edition of Milano Gallery Weekend, will be moderated by Prof. Laura Castelli (University of Milan) and will see as interlocutors Dr. Giuseppe Trimarchi (Artem Advisors New York), Emilio Isgrò (artist ), Dr. Maria Sofia Pisu (Maria Lai Archive), Dr. Michele Casamonti (Galleria Tornabuoni Arte) and Dr. Walter Baldi (collector).
As Frieze Masters opens with the very last privately-owned Botticelli portrait on view here’s a throwback of Braco Dimitrijevic‘s TRIPTYCHOS POST HISTORICUS. In the mid-Seventies Dimitrijevic started incorporating in his installations original paintings borrowed from museum collections. This project was realized in numerous museums around the world such as the Tate Gallery in London, the Louvre in Paris, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York (among others), and unites in a harmonious synthesis high art and everyday objects.

Opened on the day of her centenary, the exhibition “Un silenzio e uno Sguardo” (“A Silence and a Gaze”) MANCASPAZIO in Nuoro, Sardinia shows the public a selection of Maria Lai‘s early works. The exhibition curated by Chiara Manca continues in on M77‘s effort to bring to the front a lesser known but astounding production by Lai started with our monographic booth at this year’s edition of Miart, Milan.
This ceramic plate, scratched and then glazed, came back to Sardinia for the very first time in more than half a century for the occasion.
The exhibition continues until October 8 and can be visited every day from Monday to Saturday from 17 to 20
M77 Gallery is pleased to inform that Traveling to Post History, solo show of the artist Braco Dimitrijevic curated by Danilo Eccher, has been extended until Sunday 13 October. The exhibition presents itself as a journey through the main themes of the artist’s production starting with a large site-specific installation, Sailing to Post History, to continue with a series of photographic works and two other installations, among which a wall pice, Balkan Walzer, and Herlads to Post History, already chosen by Germano Celant for the famous Arts and Foods exhibition held on the occasion of Expo Milano at the Milan Triennale in 2015.
Today we celebrate Maria Lai‘s first centenary. Although she left us in 2013, through her works she lives on. On this very occasion, the MAXXI Museum (Rome), as part of her retrospective, Tenendo per mano il sole, will host a public event “Giornata Studio” focusing on the complex and fascinating career of the artist through the words of critics and intellectuals.

On September 13th, Emilio Isgrò, an anthological exhibition curated by Germano Celant will be inaugurated at the Cini Foundation in Venice. The exhibition is structured as a journey through his prolific artistic production focused on the complex nature of language. Isgrò continues this investigation by devoting himself to the cancellation of Herman Melville’s Moby Dick, highlighting extinct words and hidden messages. The text will flow on the walls in an immersive installation and will contain within it – as in the belly of a whale – a rich selection of artworks: from the first erasures of books dated 1964, up to the most recent ones of the Ottoman Codes.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until November 24th and will be accompanied by a catalog published by the Treccani publishing house.

A new article on Maria Lai’s MAXXI retrospective was published today by the Financial Times: “Four years before she died, Lai installed 13 looms in the Sardinian town of Aggius as part of an action that also included music, singing, poetry and nursery rhymes. Entitled “Essere è tessere. La tessitura dà spettacolo” (“To be is to weave. The weaving creates spectacle”), it is a reminder that weaving was more than Lai’s tool for making art; it was her way of stitching herself into the world.”
“On Art’s thread with Sardinia in her heart”: Check out Lara Leovino’ s review of Maria Lai’s MAXXI retrospective, in Rome, published on Fmagazine by Cairo Editore. The exhibition announces itself as a story, not conditioned by a chronology, characterized instead by intuitions and speeches that favor a peculiar biographical and artistic path. “Maria Lai is a special woman, she’s been special since she was a little girl. In rural mid-20th century Sardinia she grows up in harmony with nature: imaginative, spontaneous, almost wild […]”.

M77 Gallery is pleased to announce the event About Maria Lai, an occasion for reflection on the great Sardinian artist who died in 2013, which will be held at the gallery on September 28th from 7pm.
On this occasion the book Maria Lai. Art and relation (Ilisso, 2017) by Elena Pontiggia will be presented. In the book the author retraces the areas and lines along which the artist’s research has developed, through the study of unpublished materials. Elena Pontiggia and Maria Sofia Pisu, nephew of the artist and president of the Maria Lai Archive, will meet at the meeting, in conversation with Cloe Piccoli, art critic, curator and lecturer at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts.
For the appointment, a selection of works will be set up in the spaces of M77 Gallery and will remain open to the public from Friday 28 September to Saturday 13 October 2018.
Sanlorenzo partner of Art Basel in Basel 2018 confirms its special bond with the art world presenting at the prestigious art fair an installation which pays tribute to the artist Emilio Isgrò, designed by Piero Lissoni, art director of the prestigious brand.
The suggestive installation set up inside the Collectors Lounge is an ethereal space, almost suspended, whose perimeter is marked by Isgrò’s erasures reproduced on the walls. The Triennale dedicates a day to Emilio Isgrò on the occasion of the opening of “I Multipli Secondo Isgró” (“Multiples According to ISgrò), an exhibition dedicated to multiple artworks by Isgrò produced by Editalia with a view to civil and democratic art. This theme, dear to Emilio Isgrò, is at the basis of all the artworks presented in the exhibition and, from the premise of the multiple, the democratic work par excellence, allows through its multiplication to divulge his art and his message. The multiple according to Isgrò is not a repeated artwork for it always comes with a great autonomy which preserves the effect and the craftsmanship of the artifact.
On November 18th form 10.30 am a series of events and presentations about the artist and his work will be held at the Museum’s headquarters in Viale Alemagna 6, Milan.
Odili Donald Odita’s newest mural installation is currently being installed at the Eweson Lobby of Newark Museum in Newark, New Jersey and will soon be opened to the public. The installation is made up of eight colorful monumental panels in the artist’s unmistakable geometric style.

Alfabeti Sommersi, the contemporary art exhibition brought to life thanks to the works of two major artists: Emilio Isgrò e Anselm Kiefer. The exhibit, on display in the Sala d’Arme in Palazzo Vecchio, retraces the reflections and the history of the 1966 flood in Florence. The show will be open from November 1st to November 13th, from 11am to 7pm. The submerged city, the destroyed workshops, the books immersed in the mud: the exhibition addresses a “path” fifty-years long that, for the 50th anniversary of the flood, Palazzo Vecchio will introduce to the public.
Milan celebrates Emilio Isgrò with a large-scale retrospective of his work. As a conceptual artist and painter, but also a poet, writer, dramatist and theatre director, Isgrò has become one of the best-known names in Italian art at international level. Through his ‘erasure’ of texts from encyclopaedias, manuscripts, books, maps and films, he has reinterpreted the written word, transforming it into a visual language.
