M77 is pleased to announce Maria Lai | Antonio Marras: Paso Doble, from January 30 to May 16, 2026.
Curated by Francesca Alfano Miglietti, and in collaboration with Archivio Maria Lai, the project brings together, for the first time, the similarities and differences between the two artists through a journey of two hundred works.
As in the traditional Spanish paso doble, each work sets the rhythm of a movement that is both balance and counterpoint, in a play of isolation and echoes unfolding throughout the gallery spaces.
While Maria Lai draws, sculpts, and assembles threads, fabrics, books, poetry, and above all concepts, Antonio Marrasexperiments with all forms of language through a more theatrical and imaginative approach.
Yet for both artists, the creative act generates a separation from the world as it is already known, pushing visual communication beyond its limits. The artwork thus emerges as an expression of a rebellious solitude, a suspension of the familiar order of reality, opening onto a different vision—an “elsewhere” made of fragments and encounters.
